Meet my sisters in Christ

When I was asked to share on a significant Catholic, I did not have an easy time trying to figure that out. However, I can think of one right now, and I thank God for reminding me of the gift of a real woman, a woman who lives passionately and enjoys life fully.

Look at those smiles

I have known her for more than ten years, and I can truly describe her as a good companion on the journey. A big sister. When you interact with her, you will find her cheerful and active. This makes it a real joy to be in her company. She is young at heart and has a keen mind. Very intelligent. Knowledgeable too. She can hold a conversation on anything under the sun. Her pet subjects include the concerns of the Church, politics, current affairs and social justice. A woman of wisdom. A woman with a keen sense of observation. It is almost like she can see through you.

But what I like and admire most about her is her deep love for the Lord. In every decision that she takes she will first bring the matter to prayer. For her it is a matter of doing and accepting the will of God in her life.

St Angela Merici, pray for us!

Yes, she loves the Church. She loves the Pope and has many kind words for priests too. She also has a special love for the poor and the marginalised. In Indonesia I remember that she had wanted to make a local tour. But when she learnt that it would cost us about two hundred dollars, she declined the offer. Reason? Many poor people could do so much with that money. Yes, she gives to charity but spends frugally on herself.

When she doesn’t smile, she looks a bit unapproachable but don’t be fooled. I have seen her misty eyed at the mention of the hungry and the suffering. She has also a soft spot for children and a great love for youths. In one word, let me sum her up: a lover of souls, after the heart of Jesus, her only Treasure.

Helene completed fifty years of her life consecrated to our Lord, bearing witness to the world that one’s faithfulness to one’s vocation is all important. This article is a show of appreciation from me on behalf of all of  us in the Company of St Ursula. May God be praised! To God be the glory! Helene herself would say that nothing is of her own merit and so we thank our Lord for the marvels he works for us in each of our lives. As we have it in the latest link ‘In the Same Charism with responsibility’ our Comapny is a gift from God, a gift for the Church and for the world.  So every one of us too is a gift to all the others. Praise God! St Angela, pray for us!

The photos show Helene with Frances, a young lady who has also been to Seven Fountains for a retreat with the late Fr Iker.  She is a friend of the Ursulines. Praise God!
